NAMEJET USER GUIDE
What is NameJet?
NameJet is a domain name aftermarket auction company that consolidates an exclusive inventory of privately owned domains along with expired and deleted domains from top domain name registrars,
and makes them available for backorder and auction. NameJet is the only provider with access to the expiring domain name inventory from the industry's leading registrars - Network Solutions, eNom,
Register.com, Name.com, as well as several others.
What is the Domain Name Aftermarket?
Many domain names are acquired through what is called general availability. To be generally available simply means that the domain is not currently registered and anyone can register one of these names at an accredited registrar.
The aftermarket consists of those domain names that are already registered. Some of those names are privately owned for the purposes of investment or development. Others may be ready to expire and are not being renewed by the previous registrant.
NameJet provides a platform that enables individuals and businesses an opportunity to acquire many of these aftermarket domain names.
Creating an Account
Creating an account on NameJet is essentially a 3-step process:
(1) Provide Basic Information
The first step is to provide your name and a valid email address. You will also create a unique username and password. This initial step will allow us to send emails to you that highlight some of the best domain names that are currently available with 1,000's of new domain names being added daily.
(2) Provide Contact Information
The second step is to enter the rest of your contact information including your address and phone number.
(3) Provide Payment Information
The final step is to enter your preferred payment method. NameJet currently accepts major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
For payments in excess of $2,500 USD it is required that you become a Verified Bidder. And for transactions over $5,000, payment must be made by bank wire transfer.
We will soon be offering additional methods of payment, such as AliPay and PayPal.
Backorders & Auctions
Using our backorder service you have an opportunity to express an interest in domain names before they become available. Add the names to your backorder list and we will monitor your lists and alert you when a domain you want is about to become available. Please note that backorder bids made during the Pre-Release period (before the 3-day active auction begins) are not proxy bids, they are your starting bid when the auction opens.
If no one else places a backorder on the domain name, you may win it at the minimum backorder price - provided there is no reserve price on the domain.
If more than one person places a backorder, the domain name will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
Pre-Release domain names are expired names provided through exclusive partnerships with some of the largest and oldest domain name registrars in the industry. Pre-Release names may also be privately owned domain names being offered by our approved sellers and represent some of the best domain names available anywhere.
Most Pre-Release Names have a minimum backorder amount of $69. The Pre-Release period is the time period a Pre-Release domain name is listed on the platform prior to the start of the 3-day active auction.
Pending Delete Names
Pending Delete domain names are domains scheduled to be deleted by the associated registry. Each day NameJet publishes lists of these domains on our website. NameJet customers can backorder these domains so that our registrar partners will attempt to acquire the names upon their release for re-registration. We have partnered with SnapNames for drop-catching and together we have best drop-catching performance in the industry - but other services are competing for many of the same names so it is not guaranteed that we will catch all domains backordered. If the domain name is acquired by one of our registrar partners, NameJet will start a private auction with only the customers who previously backordered that domain on NameJet and/or SnapNames at or above the minimum bid amount. If only one customer placed a backorder request at or above the listed minimum, the auction is closed immediately after registration, the name is awarded to the winner.
Pending Delete names currently have a minimum backorder amount of $79.
Most of our users do not want to monitor the Pre-Release and Pending Delete published lists every day for each domain they wish to have.
So you can backorder domains not currently listed on NameJet (these are known as "Wish List" Domains), and we will send you an email when the name comes up as a Pre-Release or Pending Delete domain, and we will change the status of your backorder automatically. At that point you will just need to verify that your Backorder meets the minimum backorder bid amount. Once your backorder meets the minimum amount, that backorder is treated as a regular Pre-Release or Pending Delete backorder. If you do not increase your bid to the minimum amount, you will not be entered into the auction that follows.
Private vs. Public Auctions
Certain auctions on NameJet will be Private, while others will be Public.
A Private Auction is restricted to bidders that have placed a backorder bid during the Pre-Release period. New bidders cannot be added to the active auction once it starts. Only those Bidders in good standing will be added to an active Private Auction when it opens. Also, Bidders may need to be verified in order to participate in the auction depending on current high bid.
A Public Auction is open to all Bidders, and a backorder is not required to participate. Bidders with accounts in good standing can join an active Public auction at any time prior to the auction closing time. However, Bidders may need to be verified in order to participate depending on the current high bid. Please note that entering bids below the current high bid is not permitted during the active Public auction (following the Pre-Release period) and all bids entered at that time will be for the next highest amount. And if there is only one backorder, and reserve has been met, it will be awarded to that single bidder, that there must be at least two backorders for a Public auction to start.
You can find out if a domain name will be subject to a Public or Private Auction by visiting the domain's Backorder Details page prior to the active auction.
Also, a Public auction takes place if a customer failed to remit payment for a previously auctioned domain name where there is only one remaining bidder from the Private auction. Those Public auctions are open to all users except the previous winner in the Private auction that failed to remit proper payment for the domain.
Pricing & Bidding
Minimum bids for Pre-Release domains usually start at 69 and Pending Delete names start at $79. At NameJet, you are only responsible for payment if you win a domain name.
NameJet accepts bids from bidders who are logged into their NameJet account and have a valid credit card on file, and if the auction crosses a certain threshold Verified Bidder rules shall apply. If you are the only bidder (and the name is acquired in the case of Pending Delete domains), you will win the domain for your backorder bid amount. If two or more customers backordered the same domain, an auction will be held. If 2 or more customers place a minimum bid backorder on the same domain, but there is no further bidding in the auction, the backorder placed first will win (provided the domain does not have a reserve).
During an auction the amount required for each subsequent bid is dictated by the current bid increment schedules for Pre-Release and Pending Delete auctions, which are as follows:
PRE-RELEASE BID INCREMENT SCHEDULE
|High Bid Amount||Increment|
|$999 or less||$10|
|$1,000 - $24,999||$100|

If a bid is submitted any time during the final five minutes of an active auction, the auction is extended an additional 5 minutes from the time that bid is accepted. The auction will continue to be extended in 5-minute increments until no further bids are received. The auction will close after 5 minutes have lapsed without any new bids.
A proxy bid represents the highest amount you are willing to bid for a particular domain in an auction. Once you enter a proxy bid, the proxy bidding system will increment bids based on current bid increment schedule. Proxy bidding allows you to set your maximum bid amount without having to watch the auction in real time to attempt to outbid other bidders. The proxy bidding capability will only auto-bid to an amount that will enable you to be the highest bidder for a domain. If other participants continue to submit bids, the auto-bid process will bid on your behalf until the amount reaches your maximum bid amount.
Please note that bids made during the Pre-Release period are NOT proxy bids, but instead are your starting bid.
Some auctions may have a reserve price. An auction reserve is the minimum price for which the seller will accept in order to sell the domain. The exact reserve amount is not made public but a range may be provided. Your bids are accepted even if the reserve has not been met, however no sale will be finalized at the end of the auction unless the reserve price is met. If you enter a proxy bid, your bid will be raised to the amount that will meet the reserve, up to your high bid. Reserve auctions are identified by in icon next to the price.
NameJet's Verified Bidder program is a free, opt-in program that allows serious customers to bid on more names, and at higher dollar values.
If you want to place auction bids over $2,500 total, or backorder more than 10 domain names, you must be a Verified Bidder.
To register, please sign and attach the completed Verified Bidder Request
form along with photo ID that matches the credit card on file to a NameJet Support Center ticket. Please contact Support if you have any additional questions about this process.
Winning a Domain Name
If you win a domain name on NameJet you will receive an email with instructions on taking possession of the domain name registration. Domain names won or otherwise purchased on NameJet are provisioned at various registrars, depending on the source of the domain. Pending Delete domains are often provisioned at the partner registrar that catches the domain. Typically, domains won on NameJet are provisioned at either eNom or Network Solutions.
You can pay for domains via credit card or wire transfer. If you anticipate that your purchases will be small and infrequent, you may simply wish to let us charge your credit card each time you win a domain. The more frequent and larger your purchases, the more likely you will prefer to send wire transfers to establish an account balance, which we debit when we award you a name. All domains won over $5,000 must be paid by wire transfer.
We will attempt to debit your winner's NameJet account or bill the credit card on file for up to 7 days for non-verified bidders, and 14 days for those accounts with a Verified Bidder status. If you have insufficient funds to pay for the domain, your account status will change to Past Due, and you will not be able to participate in new auctions until the auctions are within the allowed grace period. You will receive daily email reminders listing domains that have been awarded but are still pending payment. In addition, you can view your reports online in your account to see which domains are pending payment. Accounts that fail to pay during the Past Due period will be closed.
We are not able to issue any refunds on domains purchased via the NameJet. Therefore, please be sure that everyone that has access to your account is authorized to log in, add domains to your backorder lists and participate in ensuing auctions.
Once you add a domain to your backorder list, you are asking us to try and acquire the domain once it goes into Pending Delete or Pre-Release status. By doing so, you agree you will pay the amount of your backorder bid if you have the only backorder (or the winning bid amount if the domain goes to auction).
Defaults cannot be used as an option if you change your mind - if you fail to make payment, your NameJet account will be closed and you will no longer be able to participate in new auctions.
Typos & Trademarks
A buyer should always use caution and double check any domain they are buying is not a typo or is actually numbers instead of letters.
There are no refunds after an auction has closed when you win a name that is spelled differently than you originally thought, or you later find there is a trademark associated with the domain.
Because we are only a venue for auctions to occur, we do not check to see whether the domain name you bid on to register infringes the legal rights of others. We urge you to investigate to see whether the domain name you select or its use infringes legal rights of others before backordering a domain and making a commitment to pay for auctions awarded to you.
